Hoops Insight? What’s that?

I love working with numbers, but I know most people don’t. I focus on college basketball and dig through the numbers to find out what’s causing them and write about that. The offense is struggling? I try to figure out if it’s a lack of transition opportunities, too much burden on one or two creative players, or just bad luck. Not putting away opponents? I’ll tell you if the offense tends to slow down unnecessarily in the last 5 minutes and take too many bad shots. I go beyond the box score and memorable plays to find the little things making a difference.

So, analytics, huh.

Basically, but I don’t just want to present numbers and expect everyone to understand that. Instead, I focus on the “so what?”, meaning I explain why data is meaningful (or sometimes why it isn’t meaningful), and as often as possible I try to discuss the “now what?”, meaning what could be done about it. My day job is in financial analysis, so I bring a lot of experience in explaining why numbers are meaningful, and I try to bring that perspective so people can learn more about what’s happening with their favorite team.

What teams do you write about?

I currently have newsletters on Kentucky and Louisville men’s basketball. When you subcribe you can pick either or both of these to receive.

I dunno, I already read plenty of basketball stuff. Why should I subscribe to you?

I pride myself in writing about topics other outlets aren’t covering. I don’t do the typical game recap or preview; I work hard to find the numbers that matter and the insights that help you know a bit more. My work has been cited on ESPN, The Athletic, and several fan sites and message boards. I focus on writing smart, unique analysis so that readers get something from it.

Oh, ok. What does it cost?

There are 2 options. A paid subscription costs $39 per year or $8 per month, and you’ll get 2 articles each week. These will be indepth reviews/previews of key games, players, lineups, etc. During the first couple months of the offseason (roughly April-May) I’ll also cover the transfer portal, and will have 1 new article each week the rest of the offseason looking back at key themes from the season, previewing the new season, or writing about interesting general basketball stuff.

You can also subscribe for free and receive 1 article every 2 weeks. These will focus on big picture trends for a team, like what areas they’re struggling in, where they’re getting better, or what makes them elite. During the offseason I’ll release 1 free article per month.

Cool, thanks. Anything else?
